In the budget cuts were the monies needed to bring the Guidance Counselor ratio in high schools to 1 to 250 students and 1 to 100 students in the junior highs. YEA students have been working on guidance counselors since the summer.
They have produced a film, created presentations, testified before the Board of Education and, even, met with the Mayor himself. Nevertheless, the students are very upset about the impact of the budget cuts. The students started collecting petitions asking for the Mayor and the City Council to restore the funding.
They found out that City Council was having a hearing during their Spring Break. (very suspicious, if you ask me) Undeterred, students wanted to deliver a message to the City Council about the impact of the Mayor's budget cuts.. here's some footage:
