Returning home from a very inspiring evening... tonight I saw the Aterciopelados perform in Sunnyvale and it was OFF THE HOOK!!! They performed songs from their current album, Oye, as well as a song from Hector Buitrago's album Conector. The Aterciopelados is without doubt one of my top bands. Andrea and Hector constantly suprise me with their lyrics, and their beats and rhythms. In some of my toughest times in life, I have listened the Andrea's voice and that has soothed me. I remember the song Dra. Corazon, Maligno, Platonico. I recently noticed that they had the #1 Latin Album on ITunes for 5 days straight. Although they are very popular, they are really chill and easy to talk to. On a few of their visits, I have shown them some of my art, alot of which is created while I listen to their albums, it's funny how one artist can inspire, shape and influence another....even in two different genres. In one of my past blog entries you can hear the interview I conducted with Andrea and Hector back in July 2005.
I took many photos of the concert, click here to check them out.
One of my favorite songs from the Aterciopelados in Rompecabezas. In December 2006 I decided to make a piece about it for our annual TUMIS Winter Portfolio. It is a really simple two-color piece which I developed when I was in the middle of a crazy separation. The lyrics capture exactly how I was feeling - "Empiezo una nueva vida, un rompecabeza, que tendre que armar." (In English: "I begin a new life, a new puzzle, which I will have to build.")
from Left to Right: Andrea, me, Hector
